WHAT’S NEW IN ATLANTIC?

by | Dec 12, 2024 | Regional Updates

It’s finally here! Well sort of…while most of the ski areas in Atlantic Canada are still waiting for cold temps for snowmaking, or some epic natural snowfalls, many of our course conductors and members scraped off the storage wax and headed to Quebec for some early season training. Eastern Course Conductor Training was in Tremblant, followed by the Atlantic Conference in Mont-Sainte-Anne.

One of the highlights at Mont Tremblant was the induction of two very deserving individuals, both with Nova Scotian roots, into the CSIA National Hall of Fame. David Green and John Gillies have both made significant contributions to the Alliance. David, a long-time instructor at Wentworth Ski Area, has been instrumental in advising both the National Board, and the regional CSIA Atlantic board, in governance and legal issues. He is a passionate Level 1 course conductor and has had an influence on many of the new instructors in the Atlantic Region. We, the CSIA Atlantic Region, would like to congratulate both gentlemen on their contributions and their induction into the Hall of Fame.

The Atlantic Convention was held in Mont-Sainte-Anne in early December. Turnout was fantastic, with members getting to knock the rust off in sessions with a talented group of trainers. The Atlantic Conference also saw some awards being handed out. Two members were inducted into the regional Hall of Fame. Ruth Boutilier (Ski Ben Eoin) and Nick Pratt (Martock) were inducted as inspirational leaders. Jim Ryan and Jeannie Proctor received Outstanding Service awards; Elsa Godin was presented with an Award of Merit. All of the recipients deserve our appreciation for the years of dedicated service they have given to the region and the contributions they have made.

Lastly, our Regional Board filled four Member at Large seats. We’re welcoming three new members, Matt Christie, Scott Owen and Sarah Pardy. As well, our chairperson, Cheryl McMurtrie will be returning for another term. We would like to welcome the new board members and thank everyone who stepped up. Our region is fortunate to have some of the most dedicated members in the Country, so the future is looking very bright indeed.

Regional courses, camps and training opportunities will be communicated through our social media channels. CSIA Atlantic is on both Facebook and, most recently, Instagram. Follow us @CSIAATLANTIC (Instagram) or CSIA Atlantic (Facebook).
