Wow! If you missed the great Spring Fling this past April at Marmot Basin, you missed a great celebration! Sunshine, snow, great food, lots of camaraderie and lots and lots of fun! Next dates are being planned so book early and don’t miss out on next season’s party in Banff!
This year at Spring Fling we celebrated Robert (Bob) Lang by inducting him into our Hall of Fame. Bob started skiing at the age of 8 and over his ski instructing career, which started in 1958, he was President of the Edmonton Ski Hill and Snow School Director as well; he taught at Sunshine and Marmot; he was an announcer for major Alberta ski races; he was an owner of Silver Summit Ski School and Rental Shop; he was a CSIA Board member in 1973; and in the 1960s he convinced ski areas to publish weekly snow condition reports on Wednesday evenings. Bob also owned a locksmith business and was a magician, escape artist, storyteller and singer. Bob’s three children (Neil, Shauna and Ken), all CSIA members, joined us for Bob’s induction.
We also celebrated the nominees for the CSIA Ski Instructor of the Year Award. Congratulations and prizes were extended to Magdalena Hoeppner (Marmot); Gary Thomson (Rabbit Hill); Katarinna Jakab (Sunridge); and Fay Bird (Nakiska).
The CSIA has lots of exciting projects lined up for this winter including – Scholarships, Project Y, Level 3 Academy & Spring Fling! Keep an eye out for dates and more information in the next Communiqué.
